Class 5

The Class 5 License course covers a Heavy Combination Vehicle with a Gross Combination Mass (GCM) of more than 25,000kg.

Combinations:

  • Truck and full trailer
  • Tractor Unit and Semi Trailer(s)
  • A trains and B trains

Course Prerequisites

  • You must hold a Full NZ Class 4 Full Driver’s license for a minimum of 6 months (if under 25 years of age), or 3 Months (if over 25 years of age).
  • You will need to make sure you have completed a DL9 medical certificate from your GP, current within 5 years
  • You will also be required to have your Class 5 Learners, which you obtain from the AA by sitting a multichoice test.

Course Outline

Two Day Course

If you have completed US24089, Logbook and Fatigue

Day 1 -
Morning – Logbook Component (if applicable)
Afternoon – Class 5 Theory

Day 2 –
Assessment Drive

If you are required to do the Logbook & Fatigue course, US24089, this will conducted on Day 1 in the morning, followed by the Class 5 Theory in the afternoon. The Assessment drive is on the second day. If you have done a logbook course within the last 2 years, you may be exempt, please call us.

Please note: depending on numbers we will always try to have everyone through by the end of the second day but this may spill over for the drive component.

Course Costs

Class 5 theory course and practical $950 plus gst (if you have already completed the logbook course).

Logbook and fatigue course (compulsary for class 2) $325 plus gst.

Truck Hire (if needed) - $425 plus GST

Eftpos is available for payment of the course on the day, through prior arrangement with the Directors of J&S Woodward Ltd – T/A Drive It.

All courses are non-refundable once commenced.

Credits for unit standards will be reported to NZQA through the MITO Business Division of Te Pūkenga Work Based Learning Limited in the approved capacity as a MITO Registered Independent Assessor.
